The Experimental Center for Pharmaceutical Education
The Experimental Center for Pharmaceutical Education in the School of Pharmacy was established in 1996. The predecessor of the experimental center was each laboratory attached to the corresponding teaching and research departments. In order to meet the needs of teaching reform and integrate resources, the Experimental Center of the School of Pharmacy was established. The center has opened 31 experimental courses and 161 experimental projects for 14 undergraduate majors at Tianjin Medical University, with average annual experimental teaching hours of 85137. Meanwhile, as a public experimental teaching and research platform for undergraduates and postgraduates, the center undertakes the scientific research and practical training teaching tasks for undergraduate, master’s, doctoral, and adult education.
The center has four experimental teaching platforms and an instrument analysis experimental center, including Chemical Experiment I teaching platform, which is responsible for experimental teaching of Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Chemical Analysis, and Instrument Analysis; Chemical Experiment II teaching platform, which is responsible for experimental teaching of Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, and Medicinal Chemistry of Natural Products; Pharmaceutical experimental teaching platform, which is responsible for the experimental teaching of Pharmaceutics, Industrial Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Pharmaceutical Botany, and Pharmacognosy; Biochemical Pharmacy teaching platform, which is responsible for the experimental teaching of Pharmaceutical Molecular Biology Technology, Clinical Pharmacology, Biopharmaceuticals, and Chemical Biology. The instrument analysis experiment center undertakes the practical teaching of different majors and the implementation of students' scientific research projects.
The central laboratory covers an area of 4880 m2. The center has 1844 sets of instruments and equipment with a total value of 33.724 million yuan, including 50 sets of large instruments and equipment with a value of 17.534 million yuan. It includes nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer, electron paramagnetic resonance spectrometer, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, flow cytometry, ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography, gradient fluorescence quantitative PCR, high-performance capillary electrophoresis, rapid protein purification system, thermogravimetric analyzer, differential scanning calorimetry and preparation equipment.
The center passed the qualification evaluation of the Teaching Laboratory of Tianjin Education Commission in 2000. In 2002, the center was evaluated and accepted by the expert group organized by the State Administration of traditional Chinese medicine and determined as level III Laboratory of traditional Chinese medicine analysis and level III Laboratory of traditional Chinese Medicine Chemistry. The center was rated as excellent teaching laboratory in Tianjin in 2007, was rated as the construction unit of Tianjin Municipal experimental teaching demonstration center in 2013, and was approved as Tianjin Pharmaceutical Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center in 2018. The center has 17 full-time experimental technicians, including 12 technicians with doctoral and master's degrees and 6 senior technicians.
