Department of Pharmaceutics

The predecessor of the Department of Pharmaceutics was the Pharmacy Group of Tianjin Health School. After Tianjin Health School was upgraded to Tianjin Medical Science Training School in the year 1980, the Pharmacy Group was renamed to Department of Pharmacy. In the year 1984, Tianjin Medical Science Training School was upgraded to Tianjin Second Medical College, the Department of Pharmacy was re-organized into Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Chemistry, etc. Tianjin Medical University was founded in 1993 by merging the Tianjin Medical College and Tianjin Second Medical College. Department of Pharmacywas upgraded to School of Pharmacy. The Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical engineering teaching and research sections were established successively. Pharmaceutical experts of Tianjin including Prof. Jing Naiye, Prof. Hu Wenze, Prof. Ye Yongnian, Prof. Gao Zhongyang were lecturing here. Former dean of School of Pharmacy and rector lifetime professor of University of Michigan Prof. Yang Zhimin promoted the development of pharmacy. In the year 2021, Department of Pharmaceutics was constructed by two divisions, Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical engineering, and Prof. Wang Yinsong was the first department head.

Department of Pharmacy currently has 6 members, including 2 professors, 2 associate professors, 2 lecturers, and 4 teachers with doctoral degrees. The department offerstheoretical/experimental courses for undergraduates, Master and Ph.D. students, including Pharmaceutics, Industrial Pharmaceutics, New Technology and New Process in Pharmaceutics, Chemical Engineering Principles, Pharmaceutics Preparation and Plant Design, Pharmaceutical Polymer Materials, Pharmaceutical Research Design, Drawing, etc. The department also participates in the teaching of multiple public elective courses and courses for international students. The department takes part in many textbooks compiling including Industrial Pharmaceutics (China Press of Traditional Chinese Medicine), Application of High Performance Liquid Chromatography in Pharmaceutical Analysis (People's Medical Publishing House), Pharmaceutical Equipment (China Standard Press), etc. The department explores the characteristics and laws of pharmacy science actively, enriches the teaching contentcontinuously, improves the teaching methods and means, introduces practical teaching content (training courses and pharmaceutical factory visits), increases design and comprehensive experiments, and then improves the comprehensive design and analysis ability of students.

Under the leadership of Prof. Yang Zhimin, we have formed a pragmatic and innovative scientific research team and explored a scientific research model for extensive cooperation with domestic universities, clinical departments, and pharmaceutical companies, which has promoted the scientific research level of the School of Pharmacy.The current academic leaders are Prof. Wang Yinsong and He Huining, focusing on the precise diagnosis and treatment of cancer, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, osteoporosis and other major diseases, and carrying out research on innovative drugs, targeted carrier technology and new therapeutic strategies, mainly research content includes exploring the delivery strategies in vivo of biotechnology drugs (polypeptide and antibody drugs, gene drugs and living cell drugs), and providing effective delivery systems for these drugs clinical using; researching the effect of dynamic therapy (including photodynamic, sonodynamic, chemodynamic and radiodynamic therapy) in the precision treatment of major diseases, and developing new photosensitizers, sonosensitizers and radiosensitizers, and promoting their clinical applications; combining inorganic nanomaterials, organic nanomaterials and biomimetic modification technology to form intelligent targeted nanocarriers, and providing an effective platform for the precise treatment of major diseases. The department is undertaking or has completed many national and provincial grants, including the National Key Science Research Program of China, Major International Cooperation R&D Projects, National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Key Grant of Tianjin Natural Science Foundation, and Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Cooperation Project, Outstanding Youth Foundation of Tianjin, Youth and Middle-aged Innovative Talent Training Program of Tianjin, Excellent Talents in Basic Medicine and Excellent Teachers Development program of Tianjin Medical University, etc. In the latest years, the professors of the department have published more than 100 articles in international academic journals including Nano Today, ACS Nano, Biomaterials, J Control Release, ACS Appl Mater Interfaces, Chem Eng J, Acta Biomater, Bioact Mater, etc. The research results in more than 10 national invention patent authorizations and completed 2 achievements conversion.
