In 1988, Tianjin Medical University and Waseda Optical School of Japan co-founded optometry major.

In 1991 , the first three-year optometry students (specialist) were formally recruited.

In 2003 , began to recruit clinical medicine (optometry) (five-year bachelor of medicine) students .

In 2004 , the School of Optometry of Tianjin Medical University was established. In the same year, the Ministry of Education officially approved the establishment of a four-year undergraduate major in ophthalmic optics (bachelor of science).

In 2005, started to recrui optometry (4-year Bachelor of Science) students .

In 2011 , approved as the master's Authorization Point of optometry (secondary discipline under clinical medicine).

In 2012 , approved as Doctor Authorization Point of Optometry (secondary discipline under clinical medicine)

      Selected as a major in Tianjin's Twelfth Five-Year Plan for strategic emerging industries

In 2015, it was approved as the construction unit of Tianjin Eye Optics Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center.

In 2016, the Ministry of Education officially approved the establishment of a five-year undergraduate program in optometry (a five-year bachelor of medicine) in our school.

In 2017, it was rated as Tianjin's 13th Five-Year comprehensive investment planning professional construction specialty.

In 2018, the Ministry of Education officially approved our university to establish a doctoral degree in medical technology (including optometry).
