The Department of Pharmacology was founded in 1951.Professor Song Hanying, a famous pharmacologist, was appointed as the first chairmanof Pharmacology. Through our 70 years history, Professor Wang Guoxiang, Zhang Caili, Lou Jianshi.served as chairman of Pharmacology. Prof. Yu Ying is the current chairman of Pharmacology. Our training programs include MD, PhD and Postdoctoral training program. Our teaching excellence is marked by award wining courses, such as “Tianjin Excellent Course”, “National Bilingual model course”, and “National brand courses for international students in English”. Our education team was awarded as “Tianjin teaching team”,“national teaching team”,“national Huang Danian-style teaching team”.
Professor Yu Ying,a Changjiang Scholar and NSFC Distinguished Young Scholars,serve as current chairman of the Department.Professor Yu’s research program studiesthe mechanismof critical illness such as cardiovascular diseases, inflammation and diabetes mellitus. As aleader in his profession, he hasstriking achievements. He published more than 50 papers in top journals includingNature Medicine, JCI, PNAS, Circulation Research and Blood. His research attracts support from various prestigious funding programs such as Key Project of National Natural Science Foundation, Major Research Plan, Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, Program 973, special drug fund of Ministry of Science and Technology.
The Department of Pharmacology is comprised of research and teaching experts with rich experience and young teachers with enthusiastic attitude for training and learning. Currently, we have 23 faculty members and technical staffs, including 12 professors and 8 associate professors and 3 instructors. And 8 of them are Ph.D. supervisors and 17 are master supervisors.Majority of our faculty member has overseas training or working experiences.
Education and Teaching:we provide quality preclinical and clinical education in pharmacology for undergraduate students, foreign undergraduate students, postgraduate students and continuing education students. We provide a variety of required courses and optional courses. Required courses includePharmacology, Pharmacology Experiment, and Functional Experiment. Optional courses include Clinical Pharmacology, Molecular Pharmacology, CardiovascularPharmacology, Frontier in Pharmacology, Medical Laboratory Animal, Drug Research and Development. Our faculty members have published 15 textbooks as chief editors, participated in compiling 31 textbooks.
Research: our research areascovercardiovascularpharmacology, tumor pharmacology, neuropharmacology, bioinformatics and drug target prediction. In the past three years, our department has been funded by more than 30 projects from national or state foundations with over 30,000,000 RMB in total, published 56 SCI papers and 101 core papers,and trained 14 doctoral and 66 masters. In 2018, Tianjin key laboratory of inflammation biology was founded in the department. The department of pharmacology ranked top 1% of ESI worldwide in 2018.
