Teaching
We currently teach courses of Medical Cell Biology, Stem Cell Biology, Developmental Biology, and Part of Early Appreciation in Teaching and Scientific Research. We strive to prepare Stem Cell Biologycourse as an excellent course in Tianjin Medical University. We provide Stem Cell Biologycourse as a compulsory courses for undergraduates majoring in basic medicine (27 hours in theory) to expand their research views. We also provide Stem Cell Biologycourse for freshman undergraduatesto stimulate their interest in stem cell biology. The stem cell biologyfor graduate students discusses the latest research in the filed, which expands the scientific research horizon of graduate students. The Developmental Biology course is a compulsory course for students major in basic medicine, and we strive to integrate the latest scientific research with basic concepts of developmental biology . Early Appreciation in Teaching and Scientific Research course combines the actual teaching and research of our department for the basic medicine majors.
Research
All the five Principle Investigators have led their own research groups to address key biological and medical questions. Their ultimate goal is to translate their findings to diagnosis and treatment of human diseases.
Professor Wu Xudong’s group is working on Epigeneticsof early embryonic development and cancers.Professor Mei Mei’s lab is interested in the mechanisms of tumor metastasis and drug resistance. Professor Yin Haifang’s group focuses on the development of different drug delivery systems. Professor Li jin’s lab’s research interest is understanding the genet-ic basis and molecular mechanism of autoimmune diseases and neuropsychiatric disorders. Professor Hu Deqing’s lab aims to elucidate how cells responds in a rapid yet regulated manner to external signal at the transcriptional and epigenetic level in the context of early embryonic development and cancer pathogenesis.
More Principle Investigators are welcomed to join the active and productive team.
Talent development
In 2013, Department of Cell Biology began to recruit graduate students. We aim at improving the quality of postgraduate education, stimulating students' interest in scientific research, cultivating students with rigorous scientific attitude, keen scientific thinking, and fully improving students' hands-on ability and experimental techniques, exerting subjective initiative, promoting their innovative ability and improving the overall quality of graduate students. At present, there are 6 doctoral students and more than 10 master students. We have guided several undergraduate students to complete their thesis, and supervised a number of undergraduates to receive the National University Students' Innovative Experimental Program project. One PhD student was awarded as outstanding graduate student in Tianjin Medical University, two graduate students received “National Scholarship”. One graduate student won Tianjin Excellent Masters’ Thesis. One student was funded by the “131” innovative talent team program in Tianjin. Highly motivated students are welcomed to join the research team.
